Angelina Jolie seemed to be in high spirits on Sunday, February 10, amid the news that estranged husband Brad Pitt attended first wife Jennifer Aniston’s 50th birthday party.
Jolie, 43, was spotted smiling and hugging a pal after she and a group of friends dined at Italian restaurant Rao’s in Los Angeles. The Maleficient II star dressed for the occasion in a black, knee-length coat and black high heels.
One night prior, Pitt, 55, was spotted at L.A.’s Sunset Tower, where Aniston was celebrating her milestone birthday with a star-studded soiree. Other guests at the party included Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Reese Witherspoon, Ellen DeGeneres, Kate Hudson, as well as Aniston’s ex-boyfriend John Mayer and Pitt’s ex-fiancée Gwyneth Paltrow.
“Jen spoke to Brad briefly,” an onlooker told Us Weekly of the reunion. “At one point she hugged him and thanked him for coming.”
The source revealed the other guests “were surprised to see Brad there and were making a big deal of it,” but the Friends alum was apparently nonplussed. “It didn’t seem like that big of a deal to Jen,” the source observed. “The invite went out to a ton of people, and he accepted. She was happy he was there, but that was it. She was busy making the rounds and excited to see so many people near and dear to her.”
The source also told Us that Pitt seemed to be having fun: “He was catching up with old friends and enjoyed himself. He saw a lot of people he hadn’t seen in years. Any negative feelings seem to have been put aside by Jen’s friends. It’s been a long time and everyone has moved on. Brad didn’t stay all that long and ducked out before most people.”
Pitt and Aniston finalized their divorce in October 2005 after five years of marriage, and Jolie confirmed her relationship with Pitt three months later. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith costars tied the knot in August 2014, but Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, kicking off a years-long custody battle over their six children: Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 12, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 10. In December 2018, Us confirmed the former couple had reached a new custody agreement and had avoided a trial.
For her part, Aniston started dating Justin Theroux in May 2011 and married the 47-year-old in August 2015. They announced their separation in a statement to Us in February 2018. On Instagram, Theroux wished the “fiercely loving” and “fiercely kind” Aniston a happy birthday on Monday, February 11.
