Lindsey Vonn announced that her mother, Lindy Anne Lund, had passed away on Thursday night with a post that was shared to her Instagram account on Saturday.
The 37-year-old performer shared several throwback photos that featured her late parent, who had succumbed to complications from ALS, with which she had been diagnosed last year.
The former Olympian’s representative also gave a statement to People to confirm the news.

The statement began with: ‘Lindsey Vonn’s mother, Lindy Anne Lund, passed away Thursday night from ALS, exactly one year to the day of her diagnosis.’
The representative expressed that Vonn ‘was incredibly grateful for the time she spent with her since the diagnosis and to be there by her side at her passing.’
They went on to write that the professional athlete would be taking part in more charitable activities for ALS-centric organizations.
‘In honor of her mother’s relentless fighting spirit, Lindsey is dedicated to learning more and helping bring additional awareness to this deadly disease,’ she said.

Vonn went on to pen a lengthy message on her Instagram post, in which she wrote that ‘my sweet mother Lindy has lost her battle with ALS.’
She made a point of writing that her mother ‘passed away peacefully as I held her hand.’
The athlete continued by expressing that her mother had left a lasting impact on her over the years.

‘I am so grateful for every moment I had with her, but I am also thankful that she is no longer suffering and in peace. She was a shining light that will never fade, and I will forever be inspired by her,’ she wrote.
She added that Lund was ‘my inspiration not because of what she did for my skiing career, but how her perpetual positivity shaped me into the person I am on, and most importantly, off the slopes.’
The professional athlete went on to illustrate how her late mother had served as one of her role models.

‘Every adversity I have faced, I found perspective and inspiration from her. Throughout the many hardships in her life, they only made her stronger, kinder, and more humble. That type of grit is what shaped me since I was a child,’ she wrote.
Vonn then wrote a personal message to her late mother to express how she wanted to emulate her in the future.
‘Mom, I hope I am one day as tough as you are. I hope I will approach every day with as much energy and optimism as you do. I hope I will one day raise my kids to be as incredible as you are. I love you,’ she wrote.
The professional athlete also shared a photo to her Instagram Story and added a message that read: ‘My beautiful mother is in heaven now.’
