The non-binary pop star – who recently updated her pronouns from they/them to she/her – moved on from Ehrich to explore her sexuality and find her authentic self.
In an 2021 interview with Glamour, she said: ‘When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am.
‘I thought I was going to spend my life with someone. Now that I wasn’t going to, I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth.’
Lovato referenced her tumultuous engagement with Max during the 19th Represents Summit in 2021: ‘When I said goodbye to that relationship, I also said goodbye to everything that was holding me back from being my most authentic self.
‘And yeah, it was the dissolvement of all things that had held me back from identifying as the person I do today.’
Demi’s new relationship with Jordan Lutes – who performs under the stage name Jute$ – is steeped in creativity, as her boyfriend has big goals for his future.
Speaking to Nuance in 2021, the indie musician said: ‘I draw as well and want to make my own animated show with my homie from Toronto who I met in film school. I would love to act eventually as well.’
Jordan went on to open up about his deep passion for songwriting: ‘I really love to write songs. It’s what I do everyday. Sometimes at 3 AM before bed, sometimes while I have my morning coffee. It’s my therapy.’
