The Blacklist TV Recap 2/19/15 “The Kenyon Family”
Last week on The Blacklist…the apparent kidnapping of a priest took Liz and Reddy to Uzbekistan because he was actually a CIA Agent and the kidnapper is a former associate of Reddy’s. Things are more complex than they seem because rather than money what the kidnapper wanted was attention paid to the fact that an oil company had a leaky pipeline that was poisoning the people. Reddy and Liz not only manage to rescue the agent, but force the oil company to give up their rights there…which are swooped up by a French company who are connected to Reddy. Meanwhile, a police detective is investigating the murder of the harbormaster killed by Tom and covered up by Liz and the only witness is cooperating in exchange for a deal.
We open with a church where the man leading the sermon tells the story of Lot and his daughters as if it were a positive example. Uh-oh. It appears someone else questioned that interpretation as the guards outside are killed, the doors are locked and someone starts throwing in tear gas.
Liz meets Reddy at the DMV where he reveals to her that creepy guy who can find anyone. But that’s not why he called her. They discuss the aforementioned church, which is a right wing, polygamous, doomsday militia that the government cannot touch, though they’ve tried. Reddy informs her the financing for the church comes from their willingness to store bad things for bad people for cash and no questions asked (so that’s were all the Beanie Babies went). Liz takes it to Harold who takes it to Black Female Deputy Attorney General (seriously, I don’t think we even know her name) and she name-drops Waco and Ruby Ridge (as if this show takes place in any approximation of reality) as to why Reddy’s tip will go unused. Reddy speaks for the audience when he says, “When have I ever been wrong?” Seriously. They consider him so valuable they were willing to take on the CIA to get him back and now they’re just going to ignore him? Luckily a bomb in a van goes off killing two police officers that can be traced back to the church militia so now they’re going in with a force that only a February sweeps budget could allow. Inside the church they find a genuinely gruesome sight: everyone has been killed.
