Kim Kardashian Disses Ed Sheeran – No Standing Ovation?
It wouldn’t be an average day or awards show if Kim Kardashian wasn’t stirring up some sort of controversy. With the Grammy Awards held on Sunday, February 8, 2015, Kardashian and her husband, Kanye West caused controversy from the minute the couple stepped onto the red carpet.
The first bit of controversy was Kim Kardashian’s dress, also being referred to as a fancy robe. Wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier gown covered in gold sequins, held together with a gold belt, the dress looked more like a glitzy bathrobe than evening wear. Kardashian seriously looked like she got out of the shower and couldn’t be bothered to find a dress to wear to the awards ceremony.
Another bit of controversy was caused by Kanye West, who forgot to wear a shirt under his velvet tux, who decided that kissing Kim and grabbing her backside was appropriate behavior for the red carpet. His affection could be attributed to the couple battling the constant divorce rumors or his need to prove he likes women to battle the other rumors that Kanye married Kim to deflect from his sexuality preferences?
Kanye did show a lighter side on the red carpet when Ryan Seacrest asked him why he looked so somber. West replied by saying “Thats my look, not smiling makes me smile,” before he showed us he can in fact smile.
Following Ed Sheeran and Jeff Lynne’s amazing performance, the audience stood up and gave them a standing ovation – with the exception of Kim Kardashian. While she remained smiling, she sat. Were the jewels on her gaudy dress too heavy for her to stand up? Was she afraid of a wardrobe malfunction or did she just really want to be more fodder for the twitter haters out there? Not to be outdone, Kanye West made sure to be remembered for his diss of Taylor Swift when she won an award at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Making a beeline for the stage to reenact the incident, West marched toward the stage, but turned around halfway there only to march back to his seat sporting smile on his face. Both Jay Z and Beyonce, looked stunned when West got up but laughter ensued, when it was played off as a joke. In reality, West claims he was not kidding saying in an interview with E! following the incident,
“I don’t even know what [Beck] said. I just know that, the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We aren’t going to play with them no more. ‘Flawless.’ Beyoncé’s video. And Beck needs to respect artistry, he should have given his award to Beyoncé. At this point, we tired of it. What happens is, when you keep on diminishing art, and not respecting the craft, and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration. We, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album, and they feel like it takes them to a different place. And then they do this promotional event, and they’ll run the music over somebody’s speech, the artist, because they want commercial advertising. We aren’t playing with them anymore. And by the way, I got my wife, my daughter, and I got my clothing line, so I’m not going to do nothing that would put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That’s why I didn’t say anything tonight, but you all knew what it meant when ‘Ye stepped on that stage.”
Kanye’s best bet is to sing or just stand there and keep his mouth closed because seriously – we are over him and his ridiculous speeches.
