iZombie Recap 4/7/15 Season 1, Ep. 4 Liv and Let Clive!
iZombie opens with Blaine and his sugar zombie mama in a post-coital haze. Set to a bubbly pop tune, there’s a montage of the couple dying their stark white hair, tanning their waxen skin, and starting their day with an all-natural smoothie. Even Blaine, who is wholly embracing his new life as the undead, still seeks companionship. His relationship with this woman is about need. A need to connect, a need to understand and empathize, which is ultimately what everyone needs regardless of living or the undead. This episode deals with the immenseness of loneliness. The chasm that we sometimes create when we cannot fully share ourselves with others.
As Blaine sees himself off to work, we find out that his little empire is expanding. The central hub of his little business is at a super twee restaurant called the “Meat Cute.” The chef works to create haute cuisine of the brain variety for Blaine’s high-paying clientele. Blaine has even hired his own muscle to help rustle up the necessary supplies for his culinary enterprise.
Liv decides that being dead shouldn’t stop her from living, from moving forward as a person. She decides to surprise Major with an apology coffee and an actual in-person apology for her behavior. Liv is the one that ends up surprised when she finds some random half-naked chick holding Liv’s old University of Washington coffee mug. Recoiling from the shock of Major moving on, she finds out that Major is in need of a roommate. Of course, this leads to yet another apology, maybe another coffee because he wouldn’t need a roommate if she had just married him DAMMIT.
