The birth of a baby girl for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, is official.  A statement has been released on the official website of the the Duke and Duchess,

Just like the birth of Prince George, the news was officially announced on the website with a statement saying:

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8:34am.

The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz.

The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.

Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

The name of the baby will be announced in due course

The baby is fourth in the line of succession after His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge and His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. She is styled Her Royal Highness Princess [name] of Cambridge.

A formal notice of the birth was posted on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

The birth move very quickly with the Duchess being admitted to the hospital at 6 am and giving birth at 8:34am.

The excitement outside the palace was there but not as overwhelming as when Prince George was born.
