William and Kate Honor Princess Diana With Christening Photographer

Prince William is once again honoring his late mother, Princess Diana by choosing her favorite photographer to shoot Princess Charlotte’s christening photos. It is not the first time that he has paid tribute to his mother. He kept her memory alive when proposing to Kate Middleton with her gorgeous sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

For her part, the Duchess has mirrored some of Diana’s style in what many believe is her way of honoring Diana. She wore a polka dot dress within 24 hours of George’s birth with many believing it was a silent nod to William’s mum.

Perhaps their biggest tribute was giving her name to their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, something many royal watchers didn’t expect.

They are following that up by choosing Diana’s favorite photographer, Mario Testino, to take the official pictures at Charlotte’s christening this Sunday.

Testino was chosen by Diana to take her photograph for Vanity Fair back in 1997 and worked regularly for the royal family ever since. He recently posted this photo on Instagram of Prince Charles with sons Harry and William to raise awareness for male cancer:

William and Kate choosing him to take the official photographs is another way they letting the world, and the royal family, know that Diana will always be an important part of their legacy.

Diana won the hearts of many in Great Britain and around the world once telling an interviewer that she knew she’d never be Queen of England but hoped to be a Queen of Hearts. Her divorce with Charles was bitter with adultery accusations coming from both sides before Queen Elizabeth decided that divorce would be the only way to stop the bitter infighting.

Diana lost her HRH status, something that reportedly devastated her, but remained involved in many philanthropical efforts before her death in 1997 in Paris. Londoners mourned her death and watched, with the rest of the world, as her sons stoically walked behind her casket during her funeral procession.

William and his brother Harry have both gotten involved with some of Diana’s favorite charities and have taken some of the stuffiness out of being a royal. William is second in line to the throne and despite the conflict between the royal family and his mother, he is keeping her memory very present.
