So You Think You Can Dance Season 12 Recap 8/17/15 – who are the Top 8?
So You Think You Can Dance is down to the final 10 contestants!!
This season has been all about being new. With two new judges, two All-Star team captains and a twist in the competition: Stage dancers vs. Street dancers, it has been an exciting season. Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo have joined Nigel Lythgoe at the judges’ table. Alumni from previous seasons, tWitch and Travis Wall have served as team captains to the Top 20 dancers. Travis will coach the stage dancers and tWitch, the street dancers.
The two teams – the STAGE dancers with Travis, feature those trained in styles such as contemporary, ballet, jazz or tap; and the STREET dancers with tWitch, features those dancers skilled in styles such as hip-hop, animation or breaking. Although they have never faced each other in competition and both were runner-ups in their respective seasons, Travis and tWitch will go head-to-head now, fighting for one of their team members to be crowned America’s Favorite Dancer.
There is also the Twitter Save this season where the fans at home tweet for one dancer from each team they would like to see saved. Ultimately, the judges make the final decision as to which of the final two dancers in jeopardy on each side are saved, thereby eliminating one Stage and one Street performer.
The top 10 finalists on Seaason 12 of So You Think You Can Dance are:
Jessica “JJ” Rabone
We will soon be watching the top 8 competitors, following tonight’s show.
Jennifer Lopez announced the winner of this season’s So You Think You Can Dance will be dancing with her when she comes to Las Vegas.
All of the dancers performed to the soundtrack from the hit television show Empire
Virgil was first up and he performed to the song “Conqueror”. A slow melody that he somehow was able to add certain amount of punch to. And, really, make it his own. Though it’s fair to note that I personally believe Virgil could do no wrong.
Contestant: Hailee Payne
Teamed up with All-Star Brandon. They danced to ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing.’ The dancers received a standing ovation from the audience and the judges.
Judges Comments: Nigel – great routine. We had fun calling you Liza Gaga and in truth you are Hailee Payne and you should stay that way. It’s tough being a broadway dancer – you did a great job. Paula Abdul: you did a great throwback to Liza Minelli. You breath so much life into every character. You took my breath away. Jason: You were a star. Today there was something about the energy that made you a star.
Hailee was announced it as safe!
Contestant: Eddie Neptune from Team Street danced to Power of the Empire
