Joan Collins Reacts to Sister Jackie’s Death – She Didn’t Know of Cancer Diagnosis Until Recently
Actress Joan Collins, best known for her starring role on the hit nighttime 1980’s soap opera Dynasty, is devastated over the death of her sister, Joan. Joan Collins passed away following a 6 1/2 year battle with cancer. A battle that was kept a secret from everyone but her three daughters.
Jackie didn’t even tell her older sister, Joan, about the diagnosis until two weeks ago. Joan had no idea and the news was devastating to the actress, according to People Magazine. Jackie didn’t want to burden her saying,
“Because it would have really affected her. I just felt she didn’t need it in her life. She’s very positive and very social but I’m not sure how strong she is, so I didn’t want to burden her with it.”
Joan said about the loss of her dear sister:
“She was my best friend. I admire how she handled this. She was a wonderful, brave and a beautiful person and I love her.”
Collins only told her three daughters and chose not to make her cancer diagnosis public since she didn’t want the sympathy that comes along with a cancer diagnosis. She said, “I don’t live my life that way. I like to be in control and so I took control of the situation.”
Upon her death, Collins was okay with the cause of her death being made public because she wants to help other women out there. She confessed she was aware of a lump in her breast two years before she went to see a doctor. In one of her final interviews with People Magazine, Collins said, “Always get it checked. And the sooner the better. That is the best advice I can give.”
The world has lost an amazing author and a true fighter. Our sympathy goes out to the family of Jackie Collins.
