If you wake up in the middle of the night/early morning, you are bound to see an infomercial with Alyssa Milano or Holly Robinson-Peete expressing their praise for Wen Hair Care, a product founded by Chaz Dean. The infomercials ensure longer lasting color and the best hair of your life but now it seems that if you use this product, you may not have any hair left. According to an article on CBS Los Angeles’ website, Dean is facing a lawsuit after customers have been complaining of hair loss directly related to the hair product. The complaints started late last year and now Guthy-Renker and Chaz are feeling the heat of what could happen if it is proven that this product is deadly to the follicles. Tanya Norman started the complaints after trying the popular product but experiencing less than perfect hair. “I had started to get a bald spot, and then I found another one in the back, and that’s when I kind of started to get worried. I started bawling. I couldn’t stop crying.” Norman said that she soon went online and learned that she was not alone and that many other people had reported the exact same thing that she was going through.

Amy Davis is the attorney for the two hundred people from forty different states (clearly you cannot blame climate) who are suing Guthy-Renker and Chaz Dean Inc. “Some of the men and women that we represented, looks like they had a weed whacker taken to their head. Just hair breaking all over,” Davis says. Davis went onto explain the cause of the baldness: “What we understand about the product and how it causes hair loss is it contains virtually no cleanser. It’s like using lotion to wash your hair, so instead of removing the product, when you rinse it off, it just becomes impacted in your hair follicle.” When CBS LA contacted both Guthy-Renker and Dean, they would not appear in a segment but rather released a statement in regards to the filings: “We take great pride in the quality of our products and believe every product meets our high standards. We want all of our customers to have positive experiences with our products. With well over 10 million WEN products shipped since 2008, our customers’ overwhelmingly positive response to WEN is a testament to the benefits it can deliver for its users.

“These benefits are reflected in consistently high rankings from independent consumer product sites as well. Importantly, there is no scientific evidence to support any claim that our hair care products caused anyone to lose their hair. There are many reasons why individuals may lose their hair, all unrelated to WEN hair products. We intend to vigorously contest the allegations made against our products. And, we encourage any customer with any questions to contact us.” Mediation is occurring during this time so when we know what is going on and the outcome, we will for sure fill you in. We have yet to hear from the celebs who endorse the product but we will for sure keep you updated. Let us know if you have used Wen and what your opinion of the product is. Another benefit to a pixie cut like Clare Bowen just debuted.
