Star Wars: The Force Awakens Breaks Records- How Much Did It Earn?

By on December 21, 2015

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” truly is a force to be reckoned with. The film, which has a #nospoilers rule, is now breaking records, at least domestically. The film made approximately two hundred and thirty-eight million dollars in the US and the grand total for the film, released late last Thursday is over five hundred million dollars. The long-awaited film is now officially the highest-grossing movie opening of any December release and the first movie to bring in one hundred million dollars in its first day. Walt Disney and JJ Abrams must be super stoked about the film which even features a cameo by James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, who also has a hit film on his hands with “Spectre.” E! has reported that the next film in the series “Star Wars: Episode VIII” is being prepared as we speak but JJ Abrams has stepped down as director and will now play the role of producer with Rian Johnson taking over the directorial duties. It has to be stressful to be a part of such an enormous and beloved franchise and have that all on your shoulders but clearly, Abrams succeeded and now he is ready to lighten his load.

Abrams has not abandoned Johnson by any means when it comes to the film as he says that the new director “has asked for a couple of things here and there that he needs for his story. He is an incredibly accomplished filmmaker and an incredibly strong writer. So the story he told took what we were doing and went in the direction that he felt was best but that is very much in line with what we were thinking as well…He’s going to do it in the way he sees fit. He’s neither asking for nor does he need me to oversee the process.” This film has now beat out “Jurassic World” in ticket sales and we can only count down the days until we will learn the new release date for the next film. I am predicting 2018 but that is just me; they may want to jump on the band wagon that is racing extremely fast and is showing no signs of slowing down. And thanks to Michael Sam, there have not been any major spoilers, aside from the cameo by Craig.
